| The Puerto Rican Day Parade, held in downtown Chicago, is the highlight of the Puerto Rican festivities. It is one of the largest parades held in the Midwest. Over 300,000 people of different ethnic and racial groups from all over Illinois and the surrounding suburbs come together to celebrate our presence in the city. For 29 years, WLS-TV Channel 7 has broadcast the parade live with Teresa Gutierrez and Bill Zayas as the hosts. Other networks radio and TV stations have also provided coverage in the past. This year's theme is "Puerto Ricans Reaching New Heights", recognizing individuals of Puerto Rican descent who have touched milestones and broken the barriers of diversity through their accomplishments. The parade will take place on Saturday, June 14 at 12:00 pm in Chicago, Illinois. The parade route runs on Columbus from Balbo to Monroe. There will be floats and marching groups that represent Puerto Rican and other cultures through folkloric performances, music and other traditions. |
